Yesterday will go down in history for me as a bad computer day. Not as bad as the great motherboard burnout of 2000 but its ranking up there amoungst it.
But first some background. At home i use 2 PCs, my laptop which I blog and surf the net from, generally from the comfort of my sofa which also has prime positioning in front of the tv, and my desktop computer which is primarily a gaming machine and is set up that way with lots of RAM, good video card etc that i also use when i want to download stuff because of its dvd burner and hard drive space.
Yesterday windows on the desktop developed problems, not the annoying kind where minor bad things happen but the no matter what you do , your fucked kind of problems and it doesn’t even get close to opening windows even in safe mode or similar. That kind of fucked. Of course i came to this conclusion after many restarts, playing around and finally swearing and threats. Naturally being the kind of person i am, while there are many partitions to keep stuff seperate for both tidyness and in case of a crash, so that i don’t loose stuff if i have to reformat, instead most of the stuff is instead stored on the main partition with windows where in fact it would get lost.
Having accumulated the stuff, i didn’t much feel like loosing it for natural enough reasons, I wanted it. So i instead dragged out an older desktop that I built myself on the cheap and whose characteristics match its price. So i put the hard drive from the good computer into this other one as a slave hard drive to access and burn the data from the hard drive onto dvd. It worked ok for a while and then … windows died on the old computer in a bad and unretrivable manner. Having from the earliest thought it might have been a virus the hard drive had been scanned and declared staff. Two computers dead in the same number of hours is an impressive score.
But there is more. Needing space for the new computer, I lay my old computer on its side on the bed where it would be out of the way. The dog considers the bed his when i am not using it and having a computer on it is in his opinion poor form. So he lay down beside it and gradually pushed it until it moved from the middle of a double bed and off the edge. No damage but it appears that the dog is trying to assassinate my computer!.
Its not all bad news though, the old computer accepted a reinstall of windows and i am now burning the data to disk, so it looks like nothing important will be lost. Just the pain of reinstalling windows and its multitude of patches when the drive goes back in the good computer.

Well CSI grissom has never been into computers it seems so maybe its that.
So saying he pushed an open box with lots of little screws (for computer cases) off the bed tonight so i think its a new trick he has taught himself.

Wegg, now that would mess with a lot of minds. Makes it tempting as an idea just because of the look on some peoples faces
