At 11.25am this morning my christmas was officially over. I’d done christmas with my family going to my sister’s and her family for breakfast. Presents were exchanged, breakfast was eaten and the kids played with their toys. Now they have headed off to her other half’s family for christmas lunch and my own parents to the holiday shack until the new year. Its just me and Grissom now.
Leaving the wrapping of the presents until this morning, I realised that in my haste to do the shopping I’d missed getting something important, at least to kids who half the fun of christmas is getting the chance to shred wrapping paper getting to the present. I had forgotten to buy wrapping paper. I remember as a kid myself my grand parents saying don’t damage the paper so we can use it again and so it was not unlike delicate surgery getting the present out of the paper, carefully unprying the grip of the sticky tape. Strangely I don’t remember ever seeing the wrapping paper the next time around so I to this day am left wondering what happened to the wrapping paper. Thinking quickly i thought what can i wrap it in, plastic bags just aren’t right. So i wrapped it in something from the heart, the form guide from out of the newspaper.
I always dread gift giving time because i can never think of what to get people but this time I think I went straight from boring Uncle Greg to top of the charts. I got my niece and nephew a photo album and disposable camera so they can take their own photos and they seemed thrilled with the present. They are learning about keeping fingers off the lens and winding the film on when they want to take a photo now so its all good.
So my friends and passers by, thats my christmas. Hope you have a good and safe christmas.
