On tuesday night in Beaconsfield Northern Tasmania there was a minor earthquake of about 2 on the Richter Scale, an event that would normally not be noticed but in this case it caused a cave in at the Beaconsfield Mine leaving 3 of the 17 men working the shift got out, three remained missing. During the subsequent days the body of one of the men was located and in the last couple of hours the other two men have been located alive and while they remain trapped, they have communicated with rescuers and are expected to be freed soon. Exciting news for sure and worthy for celebration for sure.
Unfortuately with everything news worthy the media seems to have grasp the opportunity to exploit it for there own reasons and every five minutes they have been breaking into the tv to tell the same things over and over. After the first couple of breaks the news host was replaced by Mike Munro, a respected and well known face of news and reporting. In the absence of anything new they have instead moved to the "human interest" side of things showing friends and relatives and anyone willing to show up to be on tv. All very nice but in the absence of new news just exploiting the moment All of it brings a song, Dirty Laundry that has the line "Tell you about the plane crash with a gleam in her eyes". About right i think. |
