I heard a story once upon a time about Australian Prisoners of War held in a Japanese POW camp. The Japanese used to like to try to damnage Australian morale by announcing false news like they had invaded Darwin or sunk an important ship. And so the story went on several occassions they announced that they had sunk HMAS Huon with all hands going down on the ship. What they expected was shocked silence as the men mourned fallen comrades but what they got was jeers and laughter. What the Japanese never understood was the Australian navy calling its shore establishments HMAS as well. So the idea of a shore base sinking with all hands is a little extreme. Now that HMAS Huon is long closed and is now really the name of the ship i guess that the effect would be more what the Japanese would have wanted. Maybe.
Where is this going? No where really. I thought of it because todays post in my photoblog is of a ship wreck, or part boat anyway and was taken on the banks of the Huon river. I thought i would try something different and instead of just the one photo a day post the entire series at one time. My favourite part about the series though is that the remains of this boat are a mess and then seeing the saw that has been dumped right where the handle broke is to me like one of those mastercard moments. Boat $20000, Saw $, Handle on the saw breaking, priceless.
