I haven’t felt overly compelled to comment on any of the recent news of late, either Israel and Lebanon or the whole terrorists planning on blowing up airplanes thing but then i wouldn’t now be doing it.

As far as Israel blowing Lebanon up artillery shell by artillery shell its not the type of thing i want to see. What keeps coming to mind is a West WIng episode where the theme of the episode is Proportional Response and while as a nation when attacked the urge is to destroy the other, it means you do things in proportion. Then again it doesn’t cover what can only be described as acts of terror when suicide bombers blow themselves and innocent civilians up. So i found myself wondering what is a proportional response. Great coverage has also been given to Jewish children writing messages on artillery shells before they are fired but is it any different to a bomber being considered a matyr and will go to heaven where they will have 60 virgins to have their way with for all eternity. I don’t know what the proportional response is there.

And then there is the planned terrorist actions blowing up airplanes in flight. An appauling prospect and the idea of innocent victims dying is a terrible thing. 9/11 was the last time it should have happened. What worries me was that it was detected and stopped just days before it was due to be put into action. Surely if the relevant authorities had anything on them then it should have been squashed long before they got to the stage of being ready to inact. But the cynic in me wondered at the timing, was there something that was happening that someone needed distracting from but having checked the papers i couldn’t find the traces of anything being hidden while this major news story was dominating the news instead. But yet I wonder still what we haven’t been told
