So in under an hour from now the brand new Windows Vista goes on sale tagged with the slogan The “WOW” starts now but it won’t be starting here. I have spent some time reading about some of the new features and there is nothing there that has at this stage convinced me of the need to upgrade. Sure it might make the desktop look nicer with new features, there have been efforts made to beef up security (after how long now?) but its just not doing it for me.
I spent some time reading the 100 Reasons You’ll be Speechless, it lived up to its title, not because of its reasons but that some of the reasons were rephrased and repeated later in the list.
And finally there is the stuffing around. I have two computers both running Windows XP (one Home, One Pro). Considering what would be the best version for me I settled on the Home Premium version as having the features that i am most likely to want and here is what i would have to do to the computers:
Laptop: Upgrade memory to 1gb, install upgrade
desktop: file transfer all settings, clean install of windows vista, file transfer settings back into vista, reinstall all applications
All sounds a bit like marketing and hard work, where is the Wow again? Don’t get me wrong, i might get it sometime soon, i just won’t be rushing to get it.
And the strangest thing, well i am amused to think even as i write it there are people standing outside stores in the middle of the night to buy it and then they are going to come home and try to install it. Doors open boys and girls.
windows, windows vista, computers, software,
