Its Interesting to think back and remember that its now over 20 years since the Chernobyl Disaster on the 26th April 1986. How time filies and i remember even now the news coverage and even Time Magazine. Even today the area remains a deserted wasteland. Incredibly something that i never knew was that Chernobyl remained an active nuclear power plant until December 2000 when its last reactor was switched off.
The reason i am thinking about Chernobyl now is that I just bought the computer game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl which presents the senerio that new life has been created in the form of genetic mutations caused by the radiation. Fear and Violence follow. Or something like that. I am yet to actually play it having been blogging on various blogs for a while now today but i am sure i will need to kill things in brilliant graphics and gameplay
On a side note, there is an interesting website that i visited a long time ago and again today. Ghost Town contains photos and commentary from a recent visitor to Chernobyl on her Motor Bike. Worth having a look for sure.

The Chernobyl Exclusion Zone is a fascinating place to visit.
I visited the area for two days in June 2006 with a former resident of Pripyat. We toured the Chernobyl Plant (including the Reactor 4 control room), several of the abandoned villages, and Pripyat. I have posted a photo journal of my trip at:
