They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening
we will remember them.We Will Remember them
This day commemorates the Aniversary of the first action in World War 1 by Australian and New Zealand. The plan was to capture the Gallipoli peninsula to open the way to the Black Sea for Allied navies. Before dawn on 25 April they landed at what was to become known as Anzac Cove and met fierce resistance from the Turkish defenders. Instead of being a bold strike it became a statemate that dragged on for over 8 months and saw considerable casualties. In the end Allied forces were evacuated failing to achieve its objective.

When a serving member of the Army i always found Anzac day a moving experience and while you can go to the mid morning service the dawn service is far more emotive a time. Its hard to describe the feeling of the dawn and the last post being played, remembering what the diggers went through and were to go through after. Thats where the real meaning is.
