After saturdays Myer store fire it was time for the demolition to start. Its like a giant claw attacking the wall of the building. Standing by was the Fire Brigade snorkel unit to spray down the wall as apparently the dust coming off the wall was toxic and had to be wetted down. I am not sure if it was from what the wall was or residue from the fire.
It was kind of freaky walking through town this morning. The whole block that Myer is on was cordened off and staff for the shops stood around in groups accross the road wondering what to do and whether they would get to work. I noticed them laughing nervously and shuffling their feet. In the afternoon a few had opened but most were displaying signs saying they were closed and there was the smell of smoke in the air.

What a shame. It was such a beautiful building.

It was. Amazing how quickly a beautiful building gets turned into a pile of charred smoking rubble.
