Disturbing headline news today that Benazir Bhutto was assassinatedin Pakistan after making a speech at a political rally.
In the wake of the assassination rioting has broken out as people protest the attack and reports are saying that at least ten people have been killed.
A few things came to mind when I read about it and the first thing that came to mind was admiration that she had the guts to stand up for what she believed in and what she thought was best for the country. She survived an earlier attempt on her life when she returned to Pakistan that saw almost 150 other people killed and this time reports are saying up to 20 people were also killed when the assassin killed her.
The next thing that came to mind was how horrid terrorism is, that people are prepared to kill to get what they want and take out what ever number of innocent people as well as it takes to get the job done. I believe that you have to stand up for what you believe in but not at the expense of innocent bystanders. That no matter how extreme the situation is, there is never a legitimate reason to kill innocents.
I only hope now that Pakistan doesn’t slide further into a cycle of death and destruction. I think it will though.
