Say it isn’t so, Adam Gilchrist to retire …
AUSTRALIAN vice-captain and wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist announced his retirement Saturday night from all forms of cricket.
Gilchrist, 36, said he would retire from Test cricket at the conclusion of current clash against India at the Adelaide Oval before finishing up his Australian career at the conclusion of the upcoming one-day tri series involving India and Sri Lanka.
I would say without a doubt Adam Gilchrist is one of the reasons i came back to watching cricket after moving away from it years ago. His brand and style of playing cricket is like no other and is big, bold and exciting.

It makes me sick to think that a player of such stature and regard could be forced into retirement. If anyone has any doubt to the motive behind the retirement today apart from the immediate pressure from the media I would like to hear it. Although I am sure his family is an important factor- would it still occur if there wasnt such scepticism over his performances? The Channel 9 commentary is held in high regard, but when you consider a player such as Ian Healy as a referance to the bible of wicket-keeping I think we all should consider that he does not have the dismissal world record nor does he have any where near the batting average. Words are impressive when there is no-one to argue them.
