Well its the show that everyone was talking about at work today. Underbelly was the main topic of conversation and i had to do my best to avoid hearing it since i had to record it and watch it tonight.
Last night was the first two episodes of the series which covers the ten year gangland war in Melbourne Australia an introduced some of the key players. Last nights episode followed the rise and fall of Alphonse Gangitano, known as the Black Prince of Lygon Street and relatively high up the criminal ladder. He was a violent man, a loose cannon and a womanizer who cheated on his wife. Once for the fun of it under the pretext of collecting a debt he and associate Mark Moran tore up a sports bar putting 13 people needing medical attention.
The show itself was a cut above other recent Australian dramas with a reasonable standard of acting displayed by the cast unlike the sometimes wooden (at best) to woeful acting displayed in other Australian dramas. It was violent and with its share of tit & ass but on reflection it was in context as that is the lives and environment that they were living in.
I will be watching next week.
