I recently took some advice from of all people my boss and then also from the Aussie Bloggers blog telling me to Get Dexter.
So what could i do, i bought myself a copy of Dexter during the week and now here i am sitting down to watch it on a Saturday night. Just me and a box set about a serial killer that kills other serial killers.
So far i have part way through episode 2 and i can’t decide if i am enjoying it or not. It is certainly different and it is enjoyably bitter and twisted so its not without merit but its yet to click as something i’m enjoying if that makes sense.
The story goes along the line that Dexter Morgan works as a Blood Splatter for the Miami Police but he hides a secret that he is a serial killer in his spare time. But unlike other serial killers he only hunts other serial killers and once he does, there is never a body found. He keeps a trophy of a bit of their blood on a microscope slide with the others that he has killed.
As well as Dexter there is some other unusual characters including his sister Debra who is a cop and who has career ambitions but is brought short by her insecurities and his girl friend Rita who is a domestic abuse survivor who has issues with intimacy. Now that i think about it, there doesn’t really seem to be any normal characters, they are all a little … odd.
Guess i will find out in a few more episodes if i actually like it

There will come a point sometime in the next couple of episodes where you’ll be hooked and you’ll want to watch the rest of the episodes all in one sitting.
I was a bit unsure for the first few episodes myself.

I’ve been thinking about adding Dexter to my Tivo list now that it’s coming to regular TV.
The idea that there are no normal characters are intriguing. It seems most shows have a bunch of normal characters and a few odd ones. In the real world though most people I meet are odd or damaged in some way. Sure they live “normal” lives with mundane jobs, but I don’t think I’ve ever met someone I could consider actually normal.

Similar story here: heard good things about it, gave it a go, but it just didn’t grab me enough to keep my attention.

Well, if you’re not feeling it by the end of Episode 8, it may never come to you.
8 was a biggie.
