My favourite subject from school would have had to have been 20th Century history by far. It doesn’t mean that i was good at it since there was too many essays and the like but i like it for the fact that it had happened so recently. With two world wars, the great depression, rise and fall of Communism, some other wars and all sorts of other events.

Featuring in the lessons was the rise of Fidel Castro in Cuba and all that it brought about from the Cuban Missile Crisis to the Bay of Pigs Invasion. Decades of effort never saw his reign overthrown but at long last Fidel Castro has ended his Presidency with this news:

FIDEL Castro resigned today as president and commander in chief of Cuba, the online official press said.

“I neither will aspire to nor will I accept - I repeat - I neither will aspire to nor will I accept, the position of president of the council of state and commander in chief,” wrote the Cuban leader, who had been in power for almost 50 years.
