So there is a lot of talk around lately about Greenhouse gases and global warming. There is the full range of different viewpoints from the end is nigh to flat out disputing that it is a problem at all. As far as i know the opposite ends of the view aren’t talking to each other just makes it harder for us people somewhere in the middle to really know what is going on.
It was with this in mind that i noticed a link to Carbon Neutral and followed it through to work out my own carbon emissions. It turns out that despite owning a car, eating red meet and … well being me i am below average when it comes to carbon emissions at only 7.27 tonnes of CO2 year year and that by paying $138.13 to pay for 44 trees to be planted i can offset my carbon emissions for the year. It sounds a lot of CO2 to me until i read that the Australian average is 13.2 tonnes of CO2 per year. Actually it still does, the world average is around 2 tonnes.
Its an interesting idea and now i am thinking i might start giving trees as presents. Beats a loosing scratchie

Greg, with your footprint below the average Australian you are definitely setting a great example for others to follow. You will notice how little changes in your life can bring down your carbon footprint tremendously - for example limiting your red meat consumption a little or driving a little less. And even though trees might not be the best option for offsets, they certainly make geat gifts! Our website gives some great examples of what you can do to lower your carbon footprint; have a look at http://www.noco2.com.au and take action against climate change now!

Hi Berenike - glad to be doing well. I realised today that my footprint is even lower as all my power in tasmania comes from renewable energy sources. Mainly hydroelectric but some wind too
