I was thinking that today more than likely would be featuring a Microsoft inspired rant after trying and failing to install Service Pack 1 for my Windows Vista machine. But no, i hope your sitting down because it just worked fine unlike what a lot of other people have been experiencing trying to upgrade to SP1. And to top things off unlike its threatened hour or more to complete the operation i was done and dusted well within 25 minutes*.

But it got me to speculating, how bad a business practice is it to have people loading up your software with the expectation that it is going to fail to work as it should? More fool us that we keep buying the products time after time. Its just a shame that alternatives have never got their shit together enough to really be a force to be reckoned with against the Empire that is Microsoft!

I have just fired up my old computer that is running vista to upgrade it, sadly windows update on that computer hasn’t managed to actually find SP1!

* For the record I am running Windows Vista 64 bit Premium on a Q6600 Quad Core Processor and 4 GB Ram
