It occurred to me tonight as i watched the dvd i had just bought and sat through the three copyright warnings because people that buy dvds need to be told that downloading movies is bad that it is perhaps misdirected somewhat. After checking the tv guide i realised that the warning is definitely misplaced.
I am going to throw up a concept, feel free to shoot it down. Here in Australia we have three main commercial networks (7,9 & 10) plus two government networks (abc & sbs) and some regional networks affiliated with the main networks. A fair proportion of the content is bought from overseas and the networks, especially the commercial ones have a nasty habit of changing stuff around and stopping shows for no real reason which causes no end of frustration for the regular viewers. Me i am sitting here not watching Burn Notice. With things like this happening i am sure a lot of fans turn to the internet to download shows like this.
So my point in a not so short or particularly coherent manner is that Australian TV in fact causes people to turn to the internet to watch the tv shows that they started watching on the networks and if they actually followed through with the shows there would be less downloading of the shows. I am sure the dvd makers would still include their three copyright warnings but might let me actually fast forward them.
